Come Let’s Be Merry

James Mulholland

Anonymous 17th Century text

Come, let's be merry, let's be airy,

    'Tis a Folly to be sad;

For since the World's grown mad, mad, mad,

Why shou'd we alone be wise,

And like dull Fools, gaze on other Men's Joys?

Let not To-morrow bring your Sorrow,

    While the Stream of Time flows on;

But when the blissful Day is past,

    Still endeavour that the next

Be full as gay, and as little perplex'd.

If you have Leisure, follow Pleasure,

    Let not an Hour of Bliss pass by;

For as the fleeting Minutes fly,

Time it will your Youth decay,

Then strive to live, and be blest whilst you may.

One Voice

Ruth Moody

This is the sound of one voice

One spirit, one voice

The sound of one who makes a choice

This is the sound of one voice

This is the sound of one voice

This is the sound of voices two

The sound of me singing with you

Helping each other to make it through

This is the sound of voices two

This is the sound of voices two

This is the sound of voices three

Singing together in harmony

Surrendering to the mystery

This is the sound of voices three

This is the sound of voices three

This is the sound of all of us

Singing with love and the will to trust

Leave the rest behind it will turn to dust

This is the sound of all of us

This is the sound of all of us

This is the sound of one voice

One people, one voice

A song for every one of us

This is the sound of one voice

This is the sound of one voice

Oye

Jim Papoulis

All alone. in the darkness

They are crying out for your help

They are hoping, they are dreaming

They are asking, for a change to be heard.

Are you listening, can you hear their cries ?

(Refrain)

Listen! Are you listening?

Listen! Can you hear them calling?

We are calling to you.

Listen! Are you listening?

Listen! Can you hear them calling?

Can you hear us?

They are watching, they are listening

They are searching to find their way

Can you see them, can you hear them calling

What their voices are trying to say.

Are you listening, can you hear their cries ?

(Refrain)

Listen! Are you listening?

Listen! Can you hear them calling?

We are calling to you.

Listen! Are you listening?

Listen! Can you hear them calling?

Can you hear us?

The Shadow Dance of Sylva

Darius Lim

Do not wonder too far into the woods

Haunting rustles whisper in the night

Do not wonder too far that I may lose you to the shadows

You’ll never find your way back

The ancient trees, the tangled vines

The hidden groves are alive

The air is thick; filled with the scent of flowers

Whispered harmonies in the wind

The endless beat ignites a song moving through the night

Surrender to its rhythmic might!

It’s the valley of wonders

It’s the voice of the angels

It’s the night that empowers

It’s the voice that calls us to the dance

Ya sha taka taka …Move the music!

Da bada la …. Move the music of the ancient forest woods!

Mystic, powerful, magical enchanting ancient music!

Dance in the shadows of Sylva!

Music Down in My Soul

Traditional Spiritual, arr. Moses Hogan

I hear music in the air,
I can feel it in the air,
There must be a God somewhere!
Over my head I hear music in the air,
Over my head I hear music in the air,
There must be a God somewhere!
Over my head I hear singing in the air,
Over my head I hear singing in the air,
There must be a God,
There must be a God,
There must be a God somewhere!

I've got this music down in my soul,
And it fills my heart with the joy of the Lord!

I've got joy, I've got it, joy, everlasting.
I've got peace, I've got it, peace, everlasting.
I've got love, I've got it, love, everlasting.
Love in my heart,
Oh yes, I've got -
Peace in my soul,
Oh yes, I've got -
Joy in my heart,
Joy today.

Do you love the Lord?
I love the Lord!

I've got joy - I've got joy,
I've got peace - I've got peace,
I've got love - I've got love,
In my soul!

Black Baby (from To Repair)

Tesfa Wondemagegnehu

Anita Scott Coleman

Lo… the rich loam is black like his hands.

The baby I hold in my arms is a black baby.

Today the coal-man brought me coal.

Sixteen dollars a ton is the price I pay for coal.

Costly fuel . . . though they say:

If it is buried deep enough and lies hidden long enough

'Twill be no longer coal but diamonds…

Jesus, My black baby looks like me.

Light Beyond Shadow

Dan Forrest

Paul Wigmore

Light beyond shadow,

Joy beyond tears,

Love that is greater when darkest our fears;

deeper the Peace when the storm is around,

nearer the Hope to the lost who is found.

Light of the world, ever shining, shining!

Hope in our pain and our dying.

in our darkness, there is Light,

in our crying, there is Love,

in the noise of life imparting

Peace

that passes understanding.

Light beyond shadow,

Joy beyond tears,

Love that is greater when darkest our fears;

deeper the Peace when the storm is around,

nearer the Hope to the lost who is found.

Soon I Will Be Done

Traditional Spiritual, arr. Marques L. A. Garrett

Soon I will be done-a with the troubles of the world,

Going home to live with God.

No more weeping and a-wailing,

I’m going to live with God.

I want to meet my mother,

I want to meet my father,

I want to meet my Jesus,

I’m going to live with God
